Hawks quest ends in overtime semi fnal defeat

Wednesday night's Semi-Final match saw a gutsy performance by the
Hawks Boys Soccer team who came up just short tonight, losing 3-2 as
Trinity finished the game winner 8 minutes into overtime. The finale
followed a 1-0 shutout over Prospect Mountain in the Quarter-final and a
2-0 win over Laconia in the Preliminary round last Thursday.
Coach Scot Zipke spoke of: “...what makes me most proud - down 0-2
at half (including conceding the 2nd goal 5 seconds before halftime) we
stormed back to tie it and then have chances to win it both at the end of
regular time and during the overtime. This is a great group of players who
just get that being an athlete means never giving up and continuing to fight
no matter what.”
After going down 2-0 in the first half, the Hawks came back with Derek
West scoring from Mike Baer about ten minutes into the second half.
Hopkinton’s second goal came from a West header in the box that Paul
Molnar put into the net.
Senior back Pete Sintros dominated in the middle, turning back numerous
surges up the field. Sam Crawford had five saves in goal
Coach Ziipke commented: “In addition to these two (Molnar and Sintros),
we now lose to graduation Corey Breault, Steven Benson and Allan Faulkner
- all of whom contributed to tonight’s just miss on a trip to the finals.”
Looking back at the Quarter-final game the Hawks controlled the ball
10 in the first half. After creating a bunch of dangerous chances, they finally
got the games sole goal after Paul Molnar slotted a ball to Steven Benson,

In the second half, the Hawks backed off the possession and, as a result,
Prospect ran guys forward and tried to play balls over the top. Excellent
play by outside back Mike Baer helped keep them in check and when one of
the Prospect guys did line up a 20 yd shot for their best chance of the game
Sam Crawford tipped the ball just over the crossbar to preserve the shutout.
In the Preliminary game against Laconia the Hawks first goal came fifteen
minutes into the second half. Derek West took a free kick from 45 yards
out, right in front of the Hopkinton bench and lined it into the back side
netting for an amazing goal. Hopkinton added an insurance goal on a nice
run through traffic in the box by Logan Rockwood that Paul Molnar finished
