progress, there have been many criticisms, fears, doubts, unanswered questions, and expressions of
pessimism about the value and ultimate success of the proposed distance learning system. The study was
conducted to examine the literature regarding E-learning in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia that influenced
the implementation and integration of distance learning for higher education systems. The researcher has
attempted to use this literature review to demonstrate the cultural, social, and economic benefits of E-
learning because it allows for the development of knowledge.

Syeda Taj Unisa (2014) investigated e-learning in Saudi Arabia's higher education. Her paper aims
to provide a brief look at present E-learning development in Saudi higher education. The paper
hypothesized that e-learning is the next big thing and getting very much accepted by the Saudi Arabia
higher education System as huge technological developments have taken place, many universities have
started using technology such as Blackboard as a learning management system with many other tools in a
smart classroom like epodium, Interactive board, lecture sharing, eattendance, video conferencing, etc. The
evolution from traditional blackboard and chalk to a huge innovative technological development in the
education system has not been that easy among teachers and students. Statistical analysis and data mining
tools have been used to find correlations among the technical ability, learning ability, time management
ability, and preferred mode of study of these learners. The preliminary findings revealed that the majority
(73%) of the students still prefer classroom teaching to individual study.

AlFurayd (2013) measured e-learning readiness among EFL teachers in Saudi Arabia. His study
tried to determine the readiness level of EFL teachers in Saudi Arabia for e-learning in several aspects such
as attitude toward e-learning, and computer literacy. Also, the study attempted to investigate the main
barriers that EFL teachers have to overcome while incorporating e-learning into their teaching. The theory
upon which the study was a technology acceptance model was selected to measure the attitude toward e-
learning among EFL instructors and computer literacy.

The sample selected for the study included seventyone EFL instructors who were randomly
selected to take part in the questionnaire. The findings revealed that the level of computer literacy has a
positive influence on the attitude toward e-learning among EFL instructors. The EFL instructors showed
that the administration did not quite support the e-learning in their schools. The poor support of school
administration in e-learning indicates that there is an administrative gap between the minister of higher
education and educational administration. This issue arises due to unclear e-learning policies in education
in Saudi Arabia. This issue also had an impact on the educational administration in supporting e-learning.
Finally, it is claimed that EFL instructors had two important issues when they adopt e-learning in their
teaching: (1) lack of reliability of the software; and (2) lack of time.
