Effectiveness and perceptions regarding E-learning
among Undergraduate Physical Therapy students of

            Jazan University Ramya Ramasamy Sanjeevi

Introduction and research background:

Higher education is in constant change and digitalization became a part of it.
There are more opportunities and some challenges we face in this digitalization era.

The use of e-learning has been increased rapidly and it promotes learning (Nicole
A, 2008). Many studies suggest e-learning improved English language teaching in many
Arab countries. The effectiveness of e-learning for medical and applied medical courses
is not yet proven in the Arab countries and still having a lack of evidence.

However, there are few studies done by the western countries for online teaching
among applied medical students who showed mixed results (Aleksandra et al. 2015).

Since traditional classroom teaching is followed widely all over the world to
teach medical courses, there is a need to find out the effectiveness of e-learning among
physical therapy students in specific. The student’s perceptions also have to consider
finding out the experiences, barriers they faced during the e-learning session. Informed
by this gap in research, the present study examined the effectiveness of teaching using
e-learning in physical therapy subjects and their perceptions towards e-learning.

The JUMP (Jazan university multiplatforms) system was integrated during the
academic year of 2018 in Jazan University, especially in some rural campuses. The
university took a decision to continue the educational service even during wartime. The
present study setting is the University College of AlArdah, which is one of the rural
campuses of Jazan university which is serving physical therapy as one of the
departments.

In this study, online learning, e-learning, and the JUMP system are used
synonymously.

      Research objective:

The study was guided by the following research objective:
To examine the effectiveness of e-learning among undergraduate physical
therapy students of Jazan University.
To find out the user’s perception of their e-learning experience using the JUMP
system.

      Research aim:

                                                                                                    353
