The following procedure should be observed at concerts
                 1. Players warm up on stage quietly up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the concert
                 2. The Concertmaster walks on stage, tunes the orchestra and sits down.
                 3. As the Conductor walks on stage, all players stand and face the podium. Resume seats
upon the Conductor’s invitation. Aim to stand up and sit down at the same time as the
                     Concertmaster.
                 4. When standing for applause at the end of an item, face the audience and smile.
                 5. The second half of a concert will begin when the Concertmaster stands up from their seat.
Players should fall silent and allow tuning to commence. Remain seated as the Conductor
walks on unless invited to stand.
                 6. At the conclusion of the concert, stand upon invitation of the conductor. Remain standing
after the last curtain call and follow the lead of the Concertmaster to exit the stage.
                 7. Please remember to smile; it makes a big difference for the audience!

              Photography/Recordings
From time to time photographers and/or videographers may record rehearsals and
concerts, and audio recordings may be made of some concerts. Membership of AYO implies
consent is given by players to be included in such recordings, and photos/videos of the orchestra
may be used on our website or for promotional purposes, with the proviso that consent will be
sought from particular players should there be any photos of individuals or small groups that we
would like to use for promotional purposes. If a player has any special circumstances requiring
consideration, please discuss with the orchestra Manager.

              Scholarships and Awards
               Chip and Muriel Stevens Award
This award is dedicated to the memory of the orchestra’s former President, N.W. (Chip)
Stevens, who spent his lifetime encouraging young people to love music and young musicians to
reach their full potential. The winner of this $1500 scholarship will be announced at the final
concert each year. It is awarded to the player(s) who make the greatest overall contribution to the
orchestra during the year, by showing their love of music and sharing it with others.

              Howard Wyatt Scholarships
The Freemasons of the Lodge of the Liberal Arts (No. 500) have established a trust for
charitable purposes, one of which is to assist young musicians in their education. The Howard
Wyatt Scholarships are allocated from a pool of $3000 and may be granted each year to one or
two orchestra members who have shown the best musicianship and/or overall contribution to the
orchestra – playing and otherwise. Applications are usually invited by the Executive Committee
              around August each year.

              Soloist Competition
Each player is eligible to enter the AYO Concerto Competition. Entry forms will be made
available during the year and will detail the rules and dates of the competition. First prize is a
concerto performance with AYO during the following year. Prize money totalling approximately
$5,500 is donated by a generous past player.
