AYO members should conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times during
rehearsals, sectionals, performances and other AYO functions and tours. This means being alert,
observant, attentive, enthusiastic, cooperative, respectful, courteous, punctual and dedicated.
AYO believes in equal opportunity. We define this as the right of all persons to be accorded
full and equal consideration on the basis of merit or other relevant criteria, regardless of their age,
nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, political beliefs or any
other potential source of discrimination.
Behaviour Protocol:
All members must abide by the behaviour protocol which has been developed to allow for
personal responsibility and freedom, as well as addressing issues of safety, leadership and
community responsibility.
1 Definitions
1.1 The ‘orchestra environment’ includes:
a. AYO rehearsal and performance venues
b. Any location where an orchestra event is scheduled
c. Transportation and accommodation organised by the AYO
1.2 An ‘orchestra event’ includes rehearsals, concerts, meetings and functions.
2 General Policy
2.1 The following conduct is prohibited in the orchestra environment:
a. Bullying or harassment in any form
b. Being intoxicated
c. The use or possession of illicit drugs
d. Violence or the use or possession of offensive weapons
e. Any other conduct stipulated by orchestra environment providers
2.2 Relationships within the Orchestra are to be conducted in a respectful way that is
appropriate to a team environment and to the goals and aims of the Orchestra.
3 Tour Policy
3.1 The Executive Committee must nominate a Tour Manager for each tour that must tour with
the orchestra and will be responsible for enforcing the Tour Policy.
3.2 The following conduct is restricted:
a. Smoking is permissible only in designated smoking areas.
b. The responsible consumption of alcohol is permissible only by those legally allowed
to purchase it, provided:
i. Alcohol is purchased and consumed at licensed premises
ii. Members do not disturb the peace
iii. Members are not under the influence of alcohol at orchestra events.
To clarify: No alcohol may be brought on tour, or purchased, for consumption at
accommodation venues, buses, beaches, parks and other public spaces.
c. Members aged 18 and older are permitted to leave the orchestra environment when
their attendance at orchestra events is not required.
d. Members’ behaviour must not risk bringing the orchestra into disrepute.
3.3 The following policy applies to Minors (members aged 17 and under):
