POSITION DESCRIPTION
AUCKLAND YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Reports to Executive Committee

Position Summary
Co-Opted Members are members of the Committee who serve a purely consultative or
functional role. In a consultative role, a co-opted member advises the Committee on matters
that it may lack expertise in. In a functional role, a co-opted member will have a defined
responsibility for implementing a policy or undertaking work under an assigned portfolio.
Co-Opted Members are appointed by the Committee pursuant to Rule 11(e) and do not have a
vote. A co-opted member may only attend Committee meetings where their function is being
reported and discussed or when consultation is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Role
Perform the consultative and/or functional role as assigned by the Committee.
Report on progress in that role at each Committee meeting.
2. Development
Actively work to retain existing AYO players and attract new players to the orchestra.
Establish positive contacts with other arts organisations, media outlets, music
retailers, music directors, school and private music instructors in Auckland and
regular performance destinations.
Work to expand public awareness of AYO and maintain a positive image of the
orchestra.
Keep eye out for opportunities – rehearsal and performance venues, soloists,
design, promotion.
3. Promotion
Motivate players to promote concerts in person and online.
