Funding Officer
POSITION DESCRIPTION
AUCKLAND YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Reports to Treasurer
Date May 2020
Position Summary
The Funding Officer supports the Treasurer by obtaining funding to cover new equipment and
operating expenditure. There is a dual focus on cultivating existing relationships and exploring new
lines of support. Although mainly process-oriented, the role could grow into fundraising events.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Fundraising
In consultation with the Treasurer, create a list of new equipment and operating
expenditure that could be funded by funding bodies, charitable trusts, corporate
supporters and individual donors.
Complete funding applications. Each application will be different, but almost all will
require a completed application form, 2-3 quotes from different service providers, a
resolution of the Committee, written endorsements, a profile of the organisation, a
copy of the AYO Rules, Certificate of Incorporation and a deposit slip.
Look at our previous successful funding applications. Trusts are more likely to fund
activities/equipment where community engagement is enhanced, our players get
greater opportunities or where our concerts/rehearsals are made more efficient,
safer and professional.
Prepare annual proposals for the Freemasons Lodge of the Liberal Arts and Wallace
Foundation to fund one booking of the Town Hall.
Ensure logos of organisations are added to programmes and other printed material
as appropriate.
2. Funding Events
Create and manage fundraising events.
o Maintain relationships with existing major donors/sponsors;
o Network with philanthropists and find new sources of funding;
o Utilise players for background music, speakers or as networkers.
3. Development
Actively work to retain existing AYO players and attract new players to the orchestra.
Establish positive contacts with other arts organisations, media outlets, music
retailers, music directors, school and private music instructors in Auckland and
regular performance destinations.
Work to expand public awareness of AYO and maintain a positive image of the
orchestra.
Keep eye out for opportunities – rehearsal and performance venues, soloists,
design, promotion.
4. Reports
Prepare a monthly report to the Executive Committee regarding progress on
fundraising strategies.
