3. Promotion
Lead and motivate players to promote concerts in person and online.
Carpet Bombing. Organise groups of 5 with 1 driver per group to distribute
posters/flyers at a variety of businesses or venues that potential AYO concertgoers
would frequent – e.g. music shops, retail outlets, community facilities, libraries. Post-
carpet-bombing social activity at specified time.
Handouts. Organise groups of players to hand out flyers to concertgoers of APO /
NZSO / St Matthews Chamber Orchestra / Bach Musica / NZ Pops / Manukau
Symphony / University Orchestra concerts. Check websites/Eventfinda to track what
concerts are happening in the weeks prior to an AYO concert. The most important of
these is the free-entry University Gala concert, usually in May each year.
Assist Communications Officer by updating AYO social media pages with interesting
information and run event campaigns to promote concerts and recruitment.
4. Library
Assist the Music Director with the administration of parts and folders:
o keep a record of all music folders and parts issued to players;
o help print and/or photocopy parts.
Ensure that all music and folders are collected after the final concert and returned to
AYO storage or the AYO music librarian.
5. Other Roles
Perform other roles as agreed at Committee and report on progress at each
Committee meeting.
6. Development
Actively work to retain existing AYO players and attract new players to the orchestra.
Establish positive contacts with other arts organisations, media outlets, music
retailers, music directors, school and private music instructors in Auckland and
regular performance destinations.
Work to expand public awareness of AYO and maintain a positive image of the
orchestra.
Keep eye out for opportunities – rehearsal and performance venues, soloists,
design, promotion.
