Communications Manager
                                                 POSITION DESCRIPTION
                                          AUCKLAND YOUTH ORCHESTRA


               Reports to           Executive Committee
               Date                 May 2020


              Position Summary
              The Communications Officer is responsible for the management of communication with Supporters
              and the Public, including social/digital media and overseeing the AYO website.

               Duties and Responsibilities

                    1.   Communications With Supporters
                    Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential Supporters
                          o  Maintain relationships with existing major donors/sponsors;
                          o  Develop/facilitate new relationships with donors/sponsors;
                          o  Network with potential donors/sponsors in order to find new sources of
                             support/funding
                    Maintain Supporter Database and communicate with individuals as required
                    Convert newsletters supplied by the Chairman to Mailchimp email format and distribute
                      (and arrange for photocopy/postage for 55 postal supporters)
                    Explore new platforms which will create additional exposure for AYO and its musicians
                      (i.e. additional external performances/collaborative projects where chamber music
                      ensembles perform), in collaboration with Music Director and Orchestra Manager.

                    2.   AYO Website

                    Update regularly to maintain current information, links to tickets, programmes etc.
                    Approve all content and presentation of AYO website
                    Develop and coordinate new ways in which the AYO website and its content is more
                      easily accessible to Supporters and the Public.
                    Review website theme from time to time (say every 2-3 years) and change to new look
                      as desired to maintain modern look.


                    3.   Social Media
                    Manage and maintain AYO presence on Facebook (posts, events for all concerts,
                      celebrating player achievements/awards), Twitter and YouTube, in
                      consultation/collaboration with Orchestra Treasurer
                    Explore new ways and platforms on which to engage with our supporters through social
                      media (apps, trends, websites, QR codes, etc.), in consultation and collaboration with
                      Orchestra Manager and Orchestra Treasurer
                    Run Facebook marketing campaigns for events or important posts, in consultation with
                      Orchestra Treasurer.
                    Liaise with Orchestra Treasurer re: online concert listings.


                   4.   Reports
                    Prepare a monthly report to the Executive Committee.


                   The Communications role is to oversee AYO’s public image – not to actually DO it unless desired.
