Player Representative
                                                 POSITION DESCRIPTION
                                            AUCKLAND YOUTH ORCHESTRA


               Reports to           Executive Committee

              Position Summary
              Player Representatives (PRs) occupy a central advocacy and administrative role in the Society.
              As representatives for the players, a PR must consult with players and advocate on behalf of players.
              A PR must exercise personal discretion and judgment to achieve results in the best interests of the
              whole organisation.  PRs communicate Committee decisions to players and implement policies when
              required.

               Duties and Responsibilities

                    1.  Advocacy
                    Make yourself known and available as the first point of contact for players.
                    Represent the best interests of players at Committee on all issues.
                    Act as spokesperson to players, parents and the community as required.
                    Communicate effectively between Committee, players and positively represent the
                      orchestra to the public.
                          o  Only communicate with the media with approval of the Chairman.
                    2.    Administrative
                    Arrange supper for orchestra in financially responsible manner for rehearsals; tea &
                      biscuits for concerts and tours.
                    Learn how to set up and break down percussion gear, lighting equipment, flags and
                      pull up banners.
                          o  Share this knowledge with players and delegate tasks.
                    Help with the orchestra setup and breakdown for rehearsals and concerts and
                      coordinate with Music Director regarding special setup requirements.
                          o  Ensure best possible physical working conditions for the orchestra in all
                             situations.
                          o  Ensure that front of house for concerts (especially on tour) is well presented.
                             Organise for players to sell tickets and usher if necessary.
                    Monitor compliance with AYO rules.
                          o  Report non-compliance to appropriate person.
                    Arrange rooming lists for tours when required.
                    Keep storage units tidy and assist with access where required.
                    Help with extra AYO activities including, but not limited to, auditions, the AGM and
                      soloist competition.
                    Ensure that printed and electronic media, press releases, newsletters, the
                      programme book and other materials are consistent and accurate.
                    Assist Music Director, Treasurer, Secretary or other officers with player-related
                      issues when required.
                    Assist the Music Director with the administration of auditions.
                          o  Collect subscription fees, write receipts, and deliver all proceeds and
                             subscription fee information to the AYO Treasurer.
