The first angel went, and poured out his vial

upon the earth. Ever since the divine fiat

uttered on the third day of creation week, the

earth has been an obedient servant; and since

the creation of man, she has never refused to

respond to his call for food. Whatsoever a man

sowed that he expected to reap; and the grains

and the herbs have been for the service of man

and beast. The foods which the earth brings

forth nourish the human frame, and disease is
