Chapter 2 – The Seven Churches
In 2 Esdras 7:26 occurs this language:

“Behold, the time shall come, that these tokens

which I have told thee shall come to pass, and

the bride shall appear, and she coming forth

shall be seen that now is withdrawn from the

earth.” There is an evident allusion here to the

“bride, the Lamb’s wife” (Revelation 21:9),

which is the “holy city, New Jerusalem” (verse

10; Galatians 4:26), in which is the tree of life

(Revelation 22:2), which is now “withdrawn

from the earth,” but which will in due time

appear, and be located among men. Revelation

21:2, 3.

The following paragraph on this point we

quote from Kurtz’s Sacred History, p. 50: —

“The act of God in appointing the cherubim ‘to

keep the way of the tree of life’ (Genesis 3:24),

in the garden of Eden, likewise appears not
