culminating point was the fourteenth verse of
the eighth chapter. “Unto two thousand and
three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary
be cleansed.” Careful study revealed that this
prophetic period ended in the year 1844. In
the one hundred and forty-five times the word
“sanctuary” is used in the Bible, it does not
once refer to the earth, yet they understood
the sanctuary of Daniel 8:14 to be this earth.
With this interpretation in mind they made
the verse read, “‘Unto two thousand and three
hundred days; then shall the’ Lord come.” Wm.
Miller, in America, Edward Irving, in England,
Joseph Wolff, in Asia, with hundreds of
colaborers, heralded to the world the glad
news of the Saviour’s return.
