(Romans 8:7). And “Christ is become of no
effect unto you, whosoever of you are
justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace”
(Galatians 5:4).
Yes, selfishness in any form unbalances the
judgment. It induces, foster, and promotes
pride, vanity and conceit, and a stubborn self-
will. Thus a vicious circle is formed which,
without grace, by the very constitutions of
things, can only become worse with
experience and time.
The prophet Isaiah puts it this way: “Why
should ye be stricken any more? ye will
revolt more and more: the whole head is sick,
and the whole heart faint. From the sole of
the foot even unto the head there is no
soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and
putrifying sores: they have not been closed,
neither bound up, neither mollified with
ointment” (Isaiah 1:5-6).
Job asks us, “Who can bring a clean thing out
of an unclean?” and he answers, “Not one”
(Job 14:4).
