What was the promise? “I will put enmity

between you [serpent-Satan] and the

woman [Eve and her posterity] and between

your offspring and her seed; He [the coming

offspring-Jesus] will crush your head, and

you will strike [bruise] His heel” Genesis 3:15

(NIV). [Emphasis added].

What is this enmity? Christ has pledged

Himself to introduce into man’s heart this

new principle of enmity – a hatred of sin, a

hatred of deception, a hatred of pretense, a

hatred-loathsome of everything that bears

the marks of Satan’s schemes, plots, artifice

and stratagems. Christ has implanted grace

in man’s heart through the new birth! For

“when in conversion the sinner finds peace

with God through the blood of the atonement,

the Christian life has but just begun”{FLB

117}. Yes, man must be born again in order

to experience this grace in his heart. “Marvel

not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born

again” for “that which is born of the flesh [our

first birth] is flesh; and that which is born of

the Spirit [our second birth] is spirit” (John

3:7, 6). It is the grace of Christ alone, through
