His reign lasted about twenty-one years, and
was probably pacific, as the history of it is
nearly a blank; but in 605 B. C. his army
defeated Neco, king of Egypt, who had invaded
Syria. He was succeeded by his more famous
son, Nebuchadnezzar (604 B. C.), who was the
greatest of the kings of Babylon.”
Jerusalem was taken by Nebuchadnezzar in
the first year of his reign, and third year of
Jehoiakim, king of Judah (Daniel 1:1), B. C. 606.
Nebuchadnezzar reigned two years
conjointly with his father, Nabopolassar. From
this point the Jews computed his reign, but the
Chaldeans from the date of his sole reign, 604
