but when its freedom and stability once

became known, America became the center of

progress. All nations have been molded, more

or less by the example of this country. Her

constitution has been the model for the

reorganization of nations, especially since

1840. The monarchs of Europe were forced to

relax their hold upon their subjects, and

America is the place toward which all eyes

have been directed in these crises. Even the

Orient has relaxed to the warming influence of

the United States.
