The blood of Christ was brought in contact
with earth, air, and water. The two extremes
in vegetation also met at Calvary. The cross
was made of wood taken from the trees of the
forest; “and they filled a sponge with vinegar,
and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his
mouth.”
Was there an antitype of the scarlet while his
blood was trickling from those cruel wounds?-
Yes. In Jesus as he hung upon the cross,
bruised, mocked, and bleeding, the thief
beheld the Lamb of God that taketh away the
sins of the world. Hope kindled in his soul, and
