CHAPTER 10 - GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT - GRANDDAUGHTERS AND MY SPORTING PHILOSOPHY
injustice, just put it to a case that I am probably suffering from early dementia. Again, in order of age:
Chantal
Chantal Peter and Barbie’s elder daughter has had a number of interests and she was particularly keen in the early stages to be a fighter pilot and therefore joined the Air Cadets where she has moved up the ranks and today still has an interest, but this time from an administrative role. Her interest in flying also extended to her undertaking a pilot’s license and then applying to the Air Force who were prepared to accept her but due to the fact that she is extremely short for a pilot and can’t have a pillow to sit on, they offered
her a position as a navigator, which was disappointing, given her ultimate desire to become a pilot.
This did not deter her. She has continued with her Cadet work and her other interests which are around animals. After doing a number of jobs in this area, she eventually joined the staff at the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium where for the last two and a half years she has been looking after penguins. I am sure she is becoming like a penguin because she really does believe that the penguins talk to her and keep giving her presents of small rocks. Besides this, she has obtained a science degree and I am sure she is well on the way to fulfilling her ambitions. Sporting wise, she doesn’t profess to be a great sportswoman but when it comes to Australian Rules Football, she is a magnificent supporter of Essendon and never misses a game. When we started going to the games together, we used to have to buy the Football Record which we don’t have to do anymore because she knows every player, what they do and what they can’t do and is a good critic.
