Committee & Board
Accomplishments
NYSAPLS’ is very fortunate to have close to one hundred members who energetically volunteer their
free time to serve on one or more of our 14 active committees and/or our Board of Directors. These
generous men and women work tirelessly on your behalf to protect, promote and better the profession.
As we conclude another year, we’d like to highlight the hard work your volunteer Board & Committees
have been working on this past year:
Constitution and Bylaws Committee
Members: Steve Willard, Chair; Marshall Wilson, David Cheshire
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee explored a potential new membership category for
retired members. The new category was spear-headed by the Membership Committee who were
looking for an opportunity to keep retired members involved and informed while offering a
discount on their annual membership dues. Watch for a full membership vote on this potential
bylaws amendment later this summer.
Education Committee
Members: William Eggers, Chair; Thomas Cerchiara, Jr., Kevin Hanley, Daniel Marvin,
Jonathan Schmidt, Jeremy Thompson
The Education Committee worked hard to put together an outstanding educational lineup for our
2021 virtual conference. They have reviewed each and every comment and suggestion from this
past conference and thank you for all your valuable feedback. They are currently planning several
virtual and in-person education programs for 2021 and beyond. We hope this mix of in-person and
virtual events will give everyone an opportunity to participate at their level of comfort.
Annual Conference Committee
Members: Kenneth Stigner, Chair; Michael Bogardus, Nicholas Burgher, Scott Gillis,
Howard Johannessen, Greg Koester, Brian Magee
The Annual Conference Committee hopes you had a chance to attend our first ever virtual
conference this past January. They are currently working on planning the 2022 conference as
an in-person event at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY. We have been in
communications with the hotel in order to plan an event in a safe and healthy environment. We
are hopeful the conference will bring some “normalcy” back into our event.
SAVE THE DATES: January 19-21, 2022
Ethical Practices Committee
Members: Scott Allen, Chair; Richard Brooks, Joanne Darcy Crum, Christopher Scott, David Zigler, Sr.
The Ethical Practices Committee reviewed 7 cases in 2020 and 4 more so far this year. They’ve
published ethics related articles in our magazine to help point our members in the right direction
and continually keep our Board of Directors updated on their progress. They are drafting an
outline for a potential ethical practices panel discussion for our annual conference. In addition,
they are monitoring the drone lawsuit in North Carolina that is getting national attention.
