Public Relations Committee
Members: Lemuel Morrison, Chair; Wesley Chase, Stephen Miller, Jennifer Reap,
                                   Kenneth Slaugenhoupt, James Thew

The Public Relations Committee has been extremely busy working on several campaigns this past
year. Public relations is the practice of proactively communicating with members of the media
and broader public to increase impact and broaden audiences. It is how we tell stories. NYSAPLS
has been working with The Martin Group to amplify our organization’s message to the right
audiences as well as provide strategic guidance and counsel to ensure that we are able to most
effectively broadcast issues and objectives related to the land surveying industry in New York.

NYSAPLS strives to infuse active PR across many of our organizational goals. To support the
future of our industry, we have used public relations efforts to highlight our “Get Kids into
Surveying” and “Women in Surveying” initiatives, garnering key media attention to showcase
the importance of these endeavors. We have also utilized PR to demonstrate and advertise the
current need for land surveyors, reminding home buyers and landowners of the importance of
the services that our members provide and increasing traffic to our “Find a Surveyor” webpage
and land surveying companies across New York.

Public relations plays a critical role in our ability to effectively communicate with the public and
media, and in doing so helps NYSAPLS raise the profile of organizational members and support
of the land surveying industry of New York State.
