Audrey was born in India in Madras (now known as Chennai) and is one
July
of six siblings. She studied nursing in India and after that she worked for
a highly respected doctor in Kolkotta (formerly Calcutta) then worked as
Wendy, Margaret Personal Assistant to Mr Rai Bahadur Oberoi who started the well‐

& Licia known chain of Oberoi Hotels. In the 1960's, Audrey met her late
15 July Kay husband Jack Murton in New Delhi. Jack was Australian and convinced
her to return with him to Australia where they were married.

Over the years the rest of her family migrated to Australia. Audrey
August
started work in the travel section of one of the big banks, a job that
4 August Barbara would later give her the idea of starting her own company. One day a
VIP customer whilst in the bank had a heart attack and Audrey's nursing

skills came to the fore. She immediately administered CPR until the
9 August Mignon ambulance arrived. A few days later the customer came in with a huge
bunch of flowers thanking her for saving his life. The Bank Manager was
Kathleen &
11 August very pleased and asked Audrey what she wanted and she immediately
Rhonda asked for a bank loan to buy their first home. She always emphasised
13 August Guglielmina that one should take every opportunity that came one's way! Later,
having identified the need for a dedicated distribution service in the
14 August Elaine travel industry, Audrey started her own company, eventually having
offices in five states and being assisted by family members.

After Jack passed away, Audrey met Larry Stellar, international
singer/entertainer almost forty years ago, who was also from India. Both

had a great love of music and this led them to entertain many people in
all spheres of society, performing for Prime Minister John Howard,
charitable organisations, private functions and on cruises. Some of you
have had the privilege of hearing Larry perform at Bayswater Gardens.
After deciding it was time for a break, Audrey retired but by no means
slowed down. Many of her nieces and nephews comment that she had a
much busier social calendar than they did.
Just over two years ago, Audrey suffered a major stroke which left her
bedridden and unable to speak. She is being taken good care of at
Bayswater Gardens, being one of the early residents who arrived soon
after opening. Before Larry's passing a few weeks ago, he visited her
both day and night. Audrey's love of music has not diminished and she
sings along and tries to say some words with visitors, ending her singing
with a hearty laugh and her two favourite words ‐"Oh boy"!
