Meet a Resident
Johanna Bleunberg
Hello my name is Johanna and I was born in the
Netherlands. I grew up in Bussum in the North of
Holland during war time. I had foster parents and
my foster father was a teacher at a girl’s school
where I got my first job looking after children.
I got married at 20 and had two beautiful boys,
Peter and Robert.
In the Netherlands my boys at the age of 20 had to
go into the army and do 1 ½ years’ service.
When I was 50 I came to Australia. We lived in
Tumbi Umbi then Forresters Beach. We also lived at
Tea Gardens, it was beautiful but there were not
many shops or a bank and we had to go into
Newcastle to shop. So we moved back to the
Central Coast and settled at Blue Bay.
In my spare time over the years, I have enjoyed
mountain climbing 15 years in the Netherlands. I
have climbed at 3,000 metre high mountain. For 65
years I’ve enjoyed bike riding. When my children
were little, I would put one on the front of the bike
For The Diary and one on the back and then off we would go. I
also enjoy dressmaking. Now I like to sit and knit. I
Date Event have made some lovely friends at William Cape
Gardens knatty knitters. I also enjoy reading and
