SOLUTIONS
Cotton Groves is an affordable housing community built entirely with re-purposed
shipping containers in McKinney, Texas. The development is a collaborative effort, led
by Habitat for Humanity of Collin County, the City of McKinney, its Community
Development Corporation (MCDC), and a host of other public / private organizations.
Habitat is transforming a 2.75-acre strip into a 35-unit, affordable housing town-home
community. Cotton Groves will be an eco-friendly, sustainable development and will be
the first to utilize re-purposed shipping containers for an entire neighborhood. The
Amenity Center is scheduled to be completed in January 2022, and the first two homes
were started in December 2021.
Our two ReStore locations, which are open
to the public, sell new and gently used
furniture and construction materials at
20%-50% off retail prices. ReStore
merchandise is donated by individuals,
retail stores, builders, remodelers, and local
companies. Other new items are purchased
directly from manufacturers at a reduced
cost, and the savings are then passed on to
our ReStore customers. Our new Habitat
homeowners choose much of their
furnishings and appliances from our
ReStore inventory.
