 SCHOOL
Oliver Daniels: I studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bristol before starting work as a vet in the South-East. Currently, I am moving down to Kent with Kristina Chapman (W 08) and working towards further qualifications in surgery. Recent pursuits include restoring classic cars, including a 1985 Mercedes and a 1956 Bristol 405. I’ve been lucky enough to travel a significant amount and still enjoy fishing as often as possible.
Tom Ransom: I only have fond memories of time spent at Oundle and count myself lucky to still be in close contact with many OOs from the noughties. I moved on to study Spanish with Business Management at Manchester University. A year abroad on the Erasmus Programme in Bilbao was followed, post- graduation, by a season playing and coaching rugby near Valencia in the Second Division, which brought me a good level of fluency. I joined the family farming partnership five years ago, running a diversified arable farm supplying firewood in Cambridgeshire, processing medicinal herbs and generating renewable energy. As the driest harvest I have seen rolls on, new legislation looms and we transition between generations, it’s a fraught but fascinating time to be in farming.
James Schofield: I went straight to Edinburgh University after Oundle, with no gap year, and spent four years there studying Economics & Business. While everyone around me was getting jobs in banks and property development, I didn’t have anything organised for when I graduated until about two weeks before my finals finished. I managed to get a job as an independent financial adviser, but was only given two weeks’ holiday between uni and starting work. After working there for four years (and doing a lot of exams), I decided to leave London and move up north to Yorkshire, to buy into my own IFA business (with some family backing). That was two years ago and we have doubled in
size since then. We’ve just bought bigger offices, which we moved into in the summer, and are going from strength to strength. Last year we made a small acquisition and have got another in the pipeline, which we will hopefully complete within the next few months. School seems like a long time ago now, but I always say that the five years I spent with the boys in School House were some of the best you could hope for. I’m not married yet, but who knows what’s in store!
Christian Thompson: Since leaving school, I took a year out and travelled in China with Nik Von Pueckler and South America with Jake Norman (L 08) and Seb Graves (St A 08). I went to Newcastle University to study Ancient History between 2009 and 2012, and met my girlfriend there. On leaving university, I got a job in the City of London, working in the asset management industry. I now work for M&G Investments as part of the institutional sales team, distributing funds into the pension and insurance markets. I’m currently living in Walthamstow in North London and am still very close to a number of my year group, particularly fellow School House old boys.
Henry Venmore-Rowland: I was lucky enough to sign a publishing deal with Random House for two novels while studying Ancient &
Modern History at St John's College, Oxford. The Last Caesar and The Sword and The Throne were published in 2012 and 2013. Since then I have worked as a speechwriter, worked in a legaltech start-up called Luminance from pre- launch to a $50million valuation and have recently founded Harrier Search, a recruitment consultancy dedicated to the growing legaltech sector. I live in London and write screenplays in what remains of my free time!
Nik Von Pueckler: Since leaving
Oundle, I have completed my BSc in International Management and
German from the University of Bath, during which time I spent a year
abroad in Germany, studying and
working. After spending two years at Accenture in London, I moved into proposition design consultancy with Market Gravity. In London I was
regularly in touch with fellow Old Oundelians (especially the School
House boys), going on yearly ski
trips and living with Seb Wilson Dyer Gough (F 08) in Balham. A year ago, Market Gravity was acquired by
Deloitte and earlier this year I moved
to Sydney to help set up a team to specialise in helping clients with innovation and growth challenges in APAC. I hope to spend some time
working in Singapore before
eventually moving back to London. If
any fellow OOs are in that part of the world, get in touch! www
