1 What is Journaling?
Journaling is about personal growth, mindfulness and personal
therapy. The aim of journaling is to write to get to know yourself
better, set intentions, work through challenges and take time out for
self reflection. You just write about what is going on in your life.
Time for you, with you, to do a daily check in.
Sometimes in our lives we feel balanced and motivated and other
times overwhelmed, stressed and challenged. These ups and downs
are normal but if we reflect and take lessons from our behaviours
and thoughts, we can increase our self awareness and learn better
strategies for coping when we get stuck. Your journal is for you -
personal time where you get a chance to be honest with yourself.
You can collect your thoughts, explore and learn more about your
needs, desires, priorities and concerns. The purpose is to go deep
and question yourself. As you get to know yourself better you begin
to accept and trust yourself rather than seek external validation. It
can be a very powerful process. It also provides a historical record of
INTRODUCTION events, your priorities, your thoughts and your feelings for your
future self. I also find reading and reflecting on my entries regularly a
TO JOURNALING very powerful self development tool.
There are lots of different ways to take up a daily journaling habit.
You need to work out what you want to get out of journaling and
then find an approach that works best for you. This is a support
resource for our own Hikmaty journaling framework but you can
adapt it for any system that suits you. It is designed to be useful for
anyone seeking to take up or improve their journaling experience.
If you want to see some examples of journals especially creative
ones take a look on Pinterest or Instagram for a visual feast of ideas.
