P. 48

Okay, make C. A. M. P.
        C Count your top tricks by power. Í - 3, Ì - 4 (be careful), Ë - 4
               (more care), Ê - 0. Total 11.
A No need to add as although there might be a club trick by length,
to get it you must lose 2.
M Manage and remember, “Honours from the short hand first.”
        P Play another hand well.

Important things to learn from this lesson -
        1. When dummy goes down there is no hurry. Say “Thank you
               partner” and make C. A. M. P,
        2. Play your honours from the short hand first.
        3. Look for extra tricks by length by running your opponents out of
a suit and then winning tricks with small cards.
        4. The few hands that you play in these lessons is NOT enough.
               Practice at home.

        Another helpful tool!

Another thing to note here is a very powerful concept and is one we call

        The declarer’s castle

Here we imagine a castle with four gates
named after the suits, where, unusually, the
defender’s are trying to get in and you, the
declarer are trying to stop them.
On each hand that we play we need to keep
our declaring forces outnumbering the defending
forces because once we have run out of forces at
one gate, if the defender’s get the initiative (lead)
again, they will rush through the undefended gate
and stab us in the back.
A simple hand will show us the idea better
