MUSEUM OF ART

A True "Museum of Ideas“

Established in 1931, the Nevada Museum of Art has
long been a home for arts and culture in Reno.
Described as a "museum of ideas," The Nevada
Museum of Art is devoted to educating art lovers and
novices alike about different mediums, artists,
movements, and the intersection between art and
society. The museum is one of the few museums in the
country to be accredited by the American Association of
Museums and the only such museum to receive this
distinction in the state of Nevada.

Permanent collections at the museum include exhibits
that explore the ethos and culture of the American
West, including a newly established subsection, the
Center for Art + The Environment. This exhibition,
formed in 2009, seeks to explore and illuminate the
intersection of people, artwork, and the environment,
and now attracts scholars and artists to the CA+E
Research Library.

If you're not an art scholar and instead simply looking to
take in some culture on a weekend afternoon in Reno,
you'll still find plenty to enjoy at the Nevada Museum of
Art! The museum welcomes visitors of all ages, and
aspiring young artists will be pleased to learn that the
museum presents a full schedule of educational
programs and classes. The Nevada Museum of Art also
participates in a Scholastic Art Awards program to
identify and support talented artists at the high school
level.
