Flying The Fierce & Friendly Skies
The National Championship Air Races, also known
simply as the Reno Air Races, are an exhilarating
event beloved by pilots, adrenaline junkies, and
families looking to enjoy an exciting outdoor event.
Started in the 1960s by World War II veteran Bill
Stead, the Air Races are one of the longest running
events in Reno. The event is held every
September, and features several days of diverse
aviation programming. Aviation buffs will be
delighted to learn that the Air Races feature six
different classes of aircraft, for a full schedule of
racing that allows pilots to compete at high speeds.
In addition, you’ll also get to check out air shows
that feature world class pilots trained to capture a
crowd’s attention with exciting tricks and thrilling

military aircraft at the Air Races, which makes this
