RENO IS ARTOWN
Citywide Celebration of Culture
More than one single event or exhibit, Artown is
a whole community arts movement that
happens every July in Reno. Thanks to
several grants from the National Endowment
for the Arts, Reno gets to transform each
summer into a kind of artists' and art lovers'
paradise. What started in 1996 as a way to
revitalize the city's center and persuade people
away from growing suburbia has turned into a
celebrated yearly event that draws local
residents and visitors alike. Artown now attracts
over a quarter of a million people every year to
the events that span the entire month of July,
and generates over $10 million in economic
impact.
To enjoy Artown, you can choose from a variety
of options, including many free exhibits, shows,
and concerts, as well as ticketed events. Today,
Artown features around 500 events all across
the city, which ensures there's truly something
for everyone in this celebration of cultural and
artistic diversity. From storytellers to visual
artists to jazz, piano, and country western
music, you'll find a variety of creative souls
sharing their talents and time with children and
adults looking to be entertained and uplifted
during this steamy, art-filled month.
Going to Artown each year makes us feel true
pride at claiming Reno as "our town." To
experience Artown for yourself, and to check
out the events slated for next year's Artown,
