Each year, AASBO's Best Practice Awards highlight the remarkable work being done in Arizona's school
business and support services. These awards honor individuals and teams whose ideas. initiatives, and
leadership have a tangible, positive impact on students, staff, and communities. From IT and custodial
services to procurement and nutrition, these professionals are shaping the future of public education through
innovation and dedication.

Best Practices Award Winners
Robert Jacobson Nicholas Magann

Robert created bi-monthly, one-stop-shop principal Through a strategic inernship partnership with a local
meetings to streamline operational and business community college, Nicholas addressed IT staffing
communications. This efficient model brings shortages while offering hands-on career experience
leaders together to align strategy, support, and to students. The program enhanced cybersecurity,
implementation across the district. built local workforce capacity, and created meaningful
educational alignment.

Together, they launched the Weekly Virtual Buyer's Boot Camp, providing consistent, accessible training
to 50-75 procurement professionals each week. Covering topics like requisitions, warehouse operations,
and procurement code, the boot camp has become a cornerstone of professional development in this field.
Bilingual Language Program Team

Custodial Supervisor & Director of Custodial Services, Mesa Public Schools
Recognized for launching a groundbreaking bilingual language program, Sandy and Deb have improved
communication, inclusion, and retention within their custodial teams. Originally focused on English
language acquisition for Spanish-speaking staff, the program now includes Spanish lessons for English-
speaking employees as well – fostering a truly inclusive and collaborative workplace.
