Congratulatory Remarks
ASSOCIATE DEAN: SCHOOL OF NURSING AND PUBLIC HEALTH
Dear students
Welcome to our annual award ceremony, a platform where
we recognise your commitment, hard work and perseverance.
This day marks the highlight for those who has put in extra
effort to achieve success. You faced challenges with strength,
dedication and confidence and you made it. The COVID-19
pandemic made 2020 even more challenging, however, that
did not deter you from reaching your goal. May this success
lead to bigger achievements in your professional career and
may your lights continue to shine bright. The SONPH and the
University at large is proud of you.
Prof L. Pretorius To your loved ones, I want to thank you for making it possible
Associate Dean for the students to achieve these awards. Feel proud and
School of Nursing and honoured because they will fulfil a special place in the nursing
Public Health profession.
Except for academic performance, we also wish to recognise
student leaders who worked tirelessly to provide guidance and
leadership to their fellows. Thank you for being our mediators
and for making communication easy more especially during
the time of online teaching and learning.
Another highlight for today is the launch of the Johannes
Katjikuru student leadership award. Johannes was a
formidable student leader among our nursing students
and also served in many leadership portfolios. His aim with
this award is, and I quote “to motivate and encourage our
students to be proud of their school and also to be role players
in other activities that are taking place during the academic
year on campus other than academic work”.
By this introduction I hereby launch the JK Katjikuru Student
Leadership Award: SoNPH
Congratulations to all our academic and leadership awardees
for 2020
