belief.” Birger looks attentively at Gustav while his talking, absorbing every
word.
“However, I got to travel around and see the country with the great help
from Bruce's son, Maurice. Birger now breaks his silence and jokingly asks.
“And what about the caste system?
“I don’t know. It seemed impossible for me to see how the caste system
worked in practice. But it is not my job to be a guard of morality. I look at the
country as a whole. I didn’t think about the negative back then, and I sure don’t
do now. I view the country, our next expansion for our company, to be a
wonderful country full of opportunities.“
“So your fond memories of the country, shaped your view on the country
and that’s why you want to expand so rapidly?“ Birger asks.
Gustav gets up with his coffee cup in hand, as he treads back and forth
with his face in deep thought, while sipping.
“The reason I would like to talk to you today, is that in addition to
positioning KRÄSEN aggressively in India, I am in the process of gradually
moving my entire huge private art collection to India, and that means I am going
to stay in the country most of the time for the next few years from now.”
Birger nods, as Gustav continues. “For the past few years, my orders have
all come from Asia. Singapore, India, Thailand China, Hong Kong has all become
the new epicentre business as well art trading. If there is a painting that they like,
they outbid everybody. Sotheby’s, the great auction house, are having many top
clients from Asia.” He takes a sip of his coffee and continues:
“It has been very attractive and very lucrative to say the least. Usually
when I sell in the west I have to spend a long time negotiating an agreement with
auction houses and auctioneers in place, I am after 30 years simply very tired of
it as it is a slow and expensive process.
Birger interrupts his flow. “It is completely understandable that you are
tired of it, but to relocate…” Says Birger; uneasy about the idea that Gustav may
be on his way to a permanent move to India is not exactly what he had expected.
Birger continues with a scowl that reveals his disappointment.
"My temporary contract as CEO of KRÄSEN expires in half a year, if you
travel then what?”
