"I hope you have an excellent ride," he says, clearly impressed by the two extra
quid he has received in tips.
They enter the railway station, and they can see a horde of people wandering
around. The smell, as well as the noise, strikes them like a hammer, and the heat
hangs like a dense cloud over the entire railway station.
Just being outside on the small pick-up-drop-off area is in stark contrast to the
quiet townhouses they just passed through in the cab.
"Let's go over here and get some tickets," Matt says eagerly. " I often go to
London with my dad, so let me fix this."
They rush through the crowd until they find the ticket booth, where Matt goes
in to stand in line.
"Go and buy a few sandwiches, will ya? I'll wait here then."
Matt points in the opposite direction of the box office. There are four different
stores; one selling Fish & Chips, another selling hard liquor and cigarettes, the
third one being a small burger venue, and the fourth selling sweets, tobacco and
sandwiches. They pick the latter.
"What should I get?" Eik asks while looking anxiously over his shoulder, as two
squads of patrol-officers passes by.
"Let's take three of each."
Eik orders three with ham and three with chicken.
"And also, get three cokes. Let’s hurry, we want the first train going to London, so
we don't have to hang out here any more, ” says Janokovic, who has also started
to get a little nervous.
Eik pays for the six sandwiches and coke, and buys three packs of cigarettes for
Janokovic. They put all the stuff in the plastic bag and hurries out of the store.
They walk back towards Matt, who’s still standing in line.
They have to wait in cue for ten long minutes more, before it’s finally Matt’s turn.
He ushers the boys through, and pays for their tickets.
"Hurry up, the train will be here in 5 minutes, and we will have to be on track
number 4."
They, once again, rush through the crowd of people, and manage to jump in the
last carriage of the train, just as the train conductor blows the whistle.
