The three musicians make a toast. Dan picks up a shabby towel that’s curled up
behind the guitar box and wipes the sweat off his face. Eugene bends down as
he’s finishing the sips of his beer, and then loosely lets his hand touch the coins
in the guitar box, which people have thrown.
"One pound, thirty so far mate," he notes.
"That wasn't much..."
Although it’s Sunday, the crowds on the street are massive. Dan looks at his
watch. It is 5 pm; they are silent for a little while, watching the passers-by while
they drink their beer. Eugene looks really dissatisfied, then says:
“Back in the old days we did a little trick, where we got some other folks to do
thefts for us. I was bloody good at organizing that, but I just got caught when I
tried to rob a jeweller, all by myself."
Nigel Jones looks at him inquisitively and asks:
“Were you really involved in crime like that? I’ve never done that. I have
working all my life, only being involved in fights at the pubs. ”
"Let’s just say, I know how to make good money," Eugene continues, "but I've
taken my punishment."
“Okay, let's see what happens. Cheers, and let's get started. "
Dan starts to tune his guitar, he has the pick in his mouth, looking very intense at
the guitar as he tunes it. He turns up the amplifier and with a hoarse voice he
says:
"The next song we want to play is an old Elvis tune."
He counts them in; "1, 2, 3, 4", and with a loud, strident voice he shouts: "Don’t be
cruuuueeel."
The band sets in, and at that very moment, they receive a proper big cloud of
smoke and dust, blowing in over where they stand.
The two boys from the bus stop have moved all the way towards them, now
sitting down on a piece of cardboard in front of the.
After they are done with "Do Be Cruel", they start playing a long version of the
old song "Will you love me tomorrow".
Dan is screaming at the full force of his lungs, until an obviously angry, old grey-
haired woman walks all the way towards them.
"Stop this horrendous noise at once."
