the city from inside out. They can usually know of a cheap place where we can
stay."
The other two respond to each other simultaneously: "Yeah alright, let's hear
some rock. Let's see if they put any effort innit."
They make their way to the band. The boys choose stands a bit away from them,
smoking. They’re impressed. They hang around at a large roundabout, which is
also a major traffic junction in city, where a total of six different roads run
together in two large intersections on each side of the roundabout. The band is
located in a minor space in front of a house that is being renovated with
scaffolding erected in front of the white six-storey building.
“Who’s gettin’ the beers, lads? I need a drink with this kind of music, ” says
Janokovic.
Dan looks at Eugene and Nigel with a smirk, and the band nods at the newly
arrived crew. Janokovic and Eik settle for a pilaster on the house wall, less than
five meters from The Skillers.
Matt goes out to get the beer.
"I have to take a piss," says Janokovic and leaves. Close nearby, along the house
wall, there’s some scaffolding that the workers have put up, and around that
there’s a little spot, which are covered with large blinders. There is just enough
room for one person in that little square.
Janokovic is going to use the space as a toilet. Shortly thereafter, Eik follows his
step.
"It sounds decent, right? Better than ever-playing folk music we always hear, all
the time," says Eik as he returns from the toilet.
At this very time, The Skillers begins some sort of duel between the bass and
drums. Eugene slaps his bass eagerly, while Dan lights a cigarette with his
narrow face, smiling at the newcomers, nodding approvingly. He pulls out a
comb from his back pocket, spits in his hands and lets the comb slip through his
hair, straightening his rockabilly-hair and all done in a very well practiced
manner. So he says, mainly addressed to the newcomers:
"I would like to introduce my band."
Nigel lowers the drum sound; as does Eugene with his bass and sways back and
forth while tapping his foot to the pleasant drum, a rockabilly rhythm.
