Sieg Heil.
SS-officer Wilhelm Angee
Uno snorted. He couldn’t see himself sinking that low that he had to work for the
Nazis. It was on paper now. It was what he had been doing unwillingly for years,
when the party had asked him to review and comment on the art. It hurt him to
see the Nazis control these aspects of the art. Deeming one art form right and
another wrong was completely against his personality.
"We must be absolutely sure everything goes according to plan - and who is
better for this kind of task than you? You should rejoice that the different parties
within the party have such a hard time agreeing on these matters. Also I’m gone
traveling." Had his old friend uttered over a pint of beer.
Franz Miener also had a glorious career as a museum inspector, but he had lost
his position. His only rescue that he was a member of the National Socialist
German Labor Party - a party Uno refused to join. Franz Miener's new title was
exhibition expert, and he traveled throughout Germany to revise art.
"I am grateful for what you've done for me, Franz," Uno answered, as he flushed
down a big chunk of beer to hide the lie.
In the past, Uno had been the one they all looked up to. The one, who knew about
the new trends and artists, and now he functioned as a simple stooge.
Uno was sad - and even mad with these tedious tasks. Now he would often
praise art of such insignificance, he beforehand would have laughed at. Paintings
or sculptures to his utter distaste. Now the art had to be taken seriously, and it
was his job to explain the paintings so that everyone could understand. As well
as he had to betray the art he loved so much. Horrible.
He had become one of the many inhabitants of Berlin, which was neither a Nazi
nor a resistance fighter. He followed the instructions with his head down in
order to survive.
