3 grasp the bights on the end of the cylinder
farthest from you, pulling them upward and
outward. at the same time, flatten down the
upper bights into the centre, making the knot
flatter. notice that the strands now start to go
out of shape.
6 Keep going in the same clockwise (or anti-
clockwise, if you made it that way) direction
from the centre.
4 With the knot now looking a little flatter, start
to pull on any strand that appears to be most
out of shape until it lies flat with the other
strands, remembering that, in this case, the knot
was made starting clockwise, so pull all strands
in a clockwise direction.
7 the flat mat is gradually taking shape.
5 Keep pulling each strand around the flat mat
until you reach its end.
