The Ring Knot is known to Western tyers as the
Turk’s Head Knot. This one is a four-bight, three-
part Turk’s Head, tied as a ring and then formed
into a ball, an unusual and welcome step. The Ring
Knot is formed on the fingertip and is called the
Ring Knot for that reason. It may be formed like the
Turk’s Head into a cylinder, a flat mat, or, as here,
into a ball.
3 tuck the right-hand end of the cord to the left
and then pass it over and under as shown from
left to right.
1 Wrap the cord twice around your first finger.
4 rotate the ring toward you at the top to show
the second ‘X’ and pass the end of the cord
from right to left over and under as shown.
2 slip the right-hand loop across the left-hand 5 slide the ring off your finger, here showing the
