Coach Tony Salazar was named Head Football Coach of Westlake HS in January 2022. He begins his 20th year of coaching and his 10th year at WHS and has led the Chaps to three state championships.
Prior to taking over as Head Coach, Salazar served as Westlake’s Defensive Coordinator, where his defense con- sistently ranked in the top five scoring defenses in the state of Texas - #2 in 2019 and #1 in 2020 and 2021.
Coach Salazar was the recipient of the Broyles Award in 2020, the top assis- tant coaching award in the state. He was also a finalist for the Dairy Max- Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Assis- tant Coach of the Year and a previous winner of the Central Texas Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year. In 2022, Coach Salazar was voted by his peers as Coach of the Year for District 26-6A.
Coach Salazar previously coached at Marble Falls HS, Leander HS, Drip- ping Springs HS and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Salazar grad- uated from Dripping Springs HS where he was a four-year letterman in football and a three-year letterman in three additional sports. Coach Salazar received his B.S. and his M.S.Ed from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
While at UMHB, Coach Salazar was
a four-year starting free safety and two-time team captain. He won the American Southwest Conference freshman defensive player of the year, the conference defensive player of
the year his senior year and also won first-team AFCA All-American honors. Salazar was inducted to the UMHB Football Hall of Honor in 2016.
When not working, he enjoys golfing, traveling and spending time with his son, Cruz, and his wife, Adrienne.
