According to history, the Sungnae Church was established in 1907. When the gospel was
delivered to Punggi through evangelists, Jang Chi-soon and Sim chui-myeong, people who
lived in Jain village in Dongbu-dong such as Kim Gi-pung, Lee Si-dong, Jangsamun, and
Lee Sang-ho received Jesus Christ and established the church. In March 1909, Kim Yong-
hui and Kim Chang-rip were the main ones, purchasing 15 bays of thatched house in
Seobu-dong and establishing the chapel, naming it ‘Punggi Church’.
After that, the church was revived and in 1914, the chapel was expanded. In 1919, Kim
Chang-rip and others led the establishment of Youngshin Academy for education. Rev.
Kang Byeong-ju, the father of Rev. Kang Sinmyung who was in charge of Saemoonan

Youndong Church, also served Sungnae Church. As a history hall is prepared, you can see

In 1909, when the number of church members reached about 30, a three-room chapel
with thatch was purchased and the church joined the Gyeongbuk Presbytery. Construction
of the current chapel built of stone began in 1954 and a dedication ceremony was held in
1958. Yeongju Jeil Church is a leading church in the Yeongju region. Rev. Yoon Joo-byung,
