Daechang Church, which has continued its 120-year tradition of pure faith in Juksan-
myeon, Gimje-si, North Jeolla Province, is the pride of Christianity in Korea. In Daechang-
ri, visitors can meet Christians no matter where they knock on the door. Daechang-ri has
been the Village of Jesus since William McCleary Junkin, a missionary of Gunsan branch
of the American Southern Presbyterian Mission, spread the gospel. While five people in Inside of the exhibition room
Daechang-ri, including Lee Soon-myung, Lee Ki-sun, Choi Hak-sung, Choi Hak-sam and
Choi Yoon-jung, attended the Ipchang-ri Church, they decided to establish a church in A “ㄱ” shaped chapel built by L.B. Tate and Jo Deok-sam

Daechang Church was the first self-sustaining church in Jeollabuk-do. When Im Deok-
yoon, the richest man who had many concubines converted to Christianity in 1906, the
church began to be revived. During the Japanese colonial period, Pastor Choi Hak-sam won
against pro-Japanese, Lee Wan-yong, and the church was built on the blood of numerous
martyrs, including Pastor Ahn Deok-yoon, who refused to evacuate and was martyred while
defending the church. For the members of Daechang Church, the identity of the orthodox
beliefs was solid, and the church was more firmly established with the solemn pride of the Pastor Lee Ja-ik, Elder Jo Deok-sam, and,

stories of Elder Jo Deok-sam and Pastor Lee Ja-ik.
When Lee Ja-ik, who worked as a coachman in Jo Deok-sam's horse shop, was chosen
as the first elder of Geumsan Church, Jo Deok-sam invited Lee Ja-ik as the church leader.
Later, he helped him study theology and Lee Ja-ik was ordained as a pastor at Geumsan
Church. Pastor Lee Ja-ik could be a general secretary of General Assembly for three times,
