Debrief Tips
Debriefs help participants reflect on, and deepen, what they have learned.
N:N:N uses debriefs to deepen the Noticing Us social emotional theme.
Model Show participants what you want them to do:
My turn = I show you what to do
Our practice turn = we practice it with one group member
Your turn = you go and do the debrief.
Low risk
Make debriefs low-risk (there are no right / wrong answers).
Participants can pass if they want. Come back to them at the end in case they want to speak
now.
Decrease social humiliation, increase social capital, by helping participants listen to each
other. (For example, use a talking stick, break into smaller groups to “pair and share”, and
move into groups of four with “pair and share and square”).
Talking Debriefs
These can also include feelings, thoughts, and actions. Here are some guidelines for how to
approach this:
Talking Sharing thoughts, feelings and
Debriefs future actions
* adapted from Equitas, Speaking Rights, 2018
We talk about what we liked. We share the feelings we
feel
had.
We think about what happened. We see how this
think
connects to other things.
We see how this connects to home, school and the
community.
act We talk about doing things differently.
We think about how to use this at home, school and in
the community.
