NEWARK, DELAWARE
Siemens Healthineers is a medical technology company with research and
manufacturing facilities located all around the world. A leader in medical
technology, Siemens Healthineers is constantly innovating its portfolio of products
and services in its core areas of diagnostic and therapeutic imaging and in
laboratory diagnostics and molecular medicine.
Siemens Newark, Delaware facility manufactures flexible, scalable, automation-
ready immunoassay and clinical chemistry analyzers and associated components.
These analyzers feature bidirectional magnetic sample-transport technology with
the flexibility to create over 300 customizable configurations.
Medicinal products require controlled storage conditions to ensure quality is not
compromised. This applies to low-risk products as well as high-risk products. Also,
storage temperatures must be carefully monitored and recorded to demonstrate
compliance with regulations.
A project was initiated at Siemens to expand validated cold storage capabilities
and required the installation of multiple -20ºC and - 80ºC units. The new validated
cold storage space was required to be compliant with all applicable regulations to
ensure that temperature sensitive products remain both viable and protected. The
construction, mechanical systems and controls must provide constant conditions to
ensure product stability. Redundancy and reliability were critical success factors for
the project.
DEDC was selected as the lead design firm for the project. As the lead design firm,
we managed all planning, architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural
engineering and design components of the project. DEDC self-performed all
mechanical, electrical, controls and structural engineering and design. Due to
product demand, design and construction was executed as a fast track project.
The project was completed on time and the process is fully operational.
