West Nottingham Academy Dormitories
Owner/User: West Nottingham Academy
Location: Colora, Maryland
Design Statement: In a continuing effort to provide
superior facilities to the staff and students at West
Nottingham Academy, Bernardon provided services for
two new dormitories of 10 double-occupancy rooms each
with four adjoining faculty apartments.
The goal was to provide dormitories that were spaciously
designed to create an atmosphere with a more residential
feel versus institutional. Providing maximum comfort
with enhanced faculty-student relationships was key to The use of exterior materials such as brick, vinyl siding and
the faculty at West Nottingham Academy. The attached stucco helps give the façade a more residential appearance,
faculty housing supports a supervisory workload of one which is further enhanced by interior features including a
faculty member to only five or six students. comfortable lounge with fireplace.
