Barclay Friends, a Kendal Affiliate | Preston at Barclay Friends

Location: West Chester, Pennsylvania

Design Statement: Barclay Friends is a skilled nursing care
and personal care community which suffered a catastrophic
fire that destroyed the existing personal care building and
caused damage to the skilled care building.

The Preston was designed to meet the need of replacing the
damaged building with a more state-of-the-art community,
while also providing memory support accommodations and
an increase in personal care apartments.

Bernardon’s design solution entailed a two-story,
62,200 SF design that harmoniously blends with the
surrounding community. Embracing the site’s sloped
topography, the building appears to be three separate ranch style living. This arrangement maximizes the ability
structures varying in height and aesthetic design. for daylight and views to the exterior from multiple vantage
