Design Statement: Bernardon continued its long-standing
relationship with Kendal~Crosslands during the recent
completion of the renovations to The Pond’s Edge Café at
Crosslands. Architecture and interior design services were
initially planned to be completed in two phases: Phase I
included the renovations to the existing Dining Room with
Phase II focused on the renovation of the Café Servery
that supports the Dining Room. However, during the
construction of Phase I, it became evident to Crosslands
that COVID was going to have a long-term effect on how
they provide service in the Café Servery (Phase II). This
expedited the need to complete this phase concurrently with
the dining room renovations. The Bernardon team came up
with a new design that prioritizes safety and health, just The Pond’s Edge Café not only provides a welcoming dining
weeks before the Phase II construction was set to begin. The room where residents can be social with eye-catching views
updated design complements the original plan by ensuring of the vista of trees and the pond, but also options for take-
better circulation, maximizing square footage, and providing out and grab-n-go for the diner who chooses to eat at their
