A Tribute to the Hall-Musgrove Family
Next to the gift of biblical salvation, your family is God’s most precious gift to each of us. Circumstances and choices shape each family, but regardless of how it is structured, your unconditional love will hold the family together.
I am so pleased to participate in this privileged occasion, and for so many of the Hall-Musgrove family members to come together in the beautiful, progressive Turks & Caicos where our roots can be traced.
My dear mother, Nola Musgrove, was well known in The Bahamas for her entrepreneurial spirit and “baking crabs”. In fact, she was affectionately dubbed the “Baked Crab Lady”. She was creative, determined, and had an infatigable spirit.
In 1964 when Queen Elizabeth II visited The Bahamas, the government of the day ordered a baker’s dozen, just as a sample. She was in her glory, told everyone who would listen, and this simple act was a turning point for her and our entire family.
Our mother loved her family and was an avid storyteller. She told us about “Jimmy Musgrove”, or “Papa Grow” as they called him. She told us stories of a family friend, Jane Matilda, who rode the boats from Haiti.
I never knew my father, Walter Hall, well. The most vivid memory I have of him was hearing my mom’s stories about how he and others were shipwrecked in a storm.
Only a few of the older generations are left as the oldest among us are passing on to glory. Most of my siblings on both sides of my family have passed on. So, to those
who remain, we must write and share our own stories, so they are not lost.
Perhaps this family reunion is an opportunity for us to consider a few things:
•
•
•
Inscribing and mounting the Hall-Musgrove Family tree in a place of prominence;
Launching and financing a Hall-Musgrove Scholarship Fund for deserving recipients; and
Enlarging the family chat/s to keep connected
I wish to sincerely thank those who were determined to bond ever closer and took the lead in organizing this
reunion.
I wish you all the best and may the good Lord be with each of you.
