STRENGTHENING PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEMS
To safeguard public health and advance research, we will establish Public Health Institutes (PHI) comprising:
• National Public Health Laboratory: A critical facility for national safety and pandemic response.
• National Epidemiology and Research Unit: Focused on disease surveillance and establishing a Research Institute to drive a robust health agenda.
• Environmental Health Protection Agency: A regulatory body for managing environmental health policy.
• National Pharmaceutical Agency: Responsible for regulating medicines from manufacturing to distribution.
NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH CARE AGENCY
The mental health system in the TCI faces a number of challenges:
• Stigma and discrimination causing persons not to seek help.
• Significant increase in the number of persons seeking mental health services.
