The firm's Founder, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma retired from the firm on 26th February 2019. Prior to
his retirement, he was on an extended leave of absence from the firm, following his appointment as
Nigeria's minister of Budget and National Planning; a position he held until the end of President
Muhammadu Buhari's first term in office. Senator Udoma Udo Udoma is now Of Counsel with the
firm, and continues to lend his expertise and wealth of knowledge across various practice areas.
DAN AGBOR
SENIOR PARTNER, UDO UDOMA & BELO-OSAGIE
Dan heads the firm's private equity and corporate advisory teams. His corporate advisory
specialisation include mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and derivatives transactions,
debt restructuring, debt to equity conversions and fund establishment.He has also advised on a
range of corporate and financing transactions involving local and international.
He has published several articles on banking, secured credit transactions, the Nigerian debt
conversion programme, global depositary receipts, foreign investment, international joint venture
agreements and guarantees and tax. He chairs and serves on the boards of various blue chip
companies. As a leader, he is also ranked as “highly regarded” by the International Financial Law
Review (“IFLR”) and featured in the IFLR (Expert Guides), the Practical Law Company “Which
Lawyer” Guides, the Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal.
ANIEKAN UKPANAH
MANAGING PARTNER, UDO UDOMA & BELO-OSAGIE
Aniekan is the firm's Managing Partner and he heads Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie's banking and
finance teams, its project finance, infrastructure and PPP, real estate and intellectual property teams.
He advises on the structuring and financing of construction, energy project, hotel, shopping mall,
road and railway transactions, the capital and money markets and syndicated loans.
He also advised on transportation concessions and transportation infrastructure projects. He has
also acted as local legal adviser in relation to high profile projects including various lending
syndicates on financing operators in the telecommunications, manufacturing, steel fabrication and
power sectors. He also advises investors in the gas sector including one of the largest extractors of
natural gas in the world in relation to various Nigerian oil and gas projects.
Aniekan is ranked as a leading lawyer in the corporate/M&A sections of Chambers Global Directory
and the International Financial Law Review (Expert Guides) and the Legal 500, and is commended in
Who’s Who Legal 2009.
He is a member of the governing council of Obong University, the first licensed private university in
Akwa Ibom State. He also chairs and serves on the boards of various private limited liability
companies.
FOLAKE ELIAS-ADEBOWALE
PARTNER, UDO UDOMA & BELO-OSAGIE
Folake is a corporate team partner and co-head of the firm’s private equity, M&A and oil and gas
teams. She advises private equity houses, financial investors, corporates, investee entities and
other clients on diverse matters including domestic and cross-border acquisitions, divestments,
restructuring and compliance matters across various sectors and industries.
She is a member of the legal and regulatory council of the Emerging Markets Private Equity
Association (EMPEA) and the legal and regulatory committees of the African Venture Capital
Association (AVCA) and the Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, Nigeria (PEVCA).
She sits on PEVCA’s inaugural board and serves on the technical committee established by the
Securities and Exchange Commission and PEVCA to assist with the review of Nigerian private
equity regulations.
Commended in The Lawyer UK’s '’Africa Elite’' Private Equity Report for her private equity
practice, Folake is also recognised and ranked by other independent rankings publications
including Chambers Global Guide 2020; Chambers FinTech Guide (Nigeria) 2020; The IFLR1000;
The Legal 500; Who’s Who Legal Global Guide (M&A and Governance); and Who’s Who Legal
Nigeria.
